カウロバクター属(カウロバクターぞく、Caulobacter)は真正細菌Pseudomonadotaアルファプロテオバクテリア綱カウロバクター目カウロバクター科の一つであり、同科のタイプ属である。グラム陰性の有柄細菌。鞭毛を持つ遊走細胞と付属器を伸ばして幾つかの細胞と放射状に結合している有柄細胞という二つの状態を示す。名称は軸のある桿菌を意味する。基準種はカウロバクター・ビブリオイデスでGC含量は62から67。

水中に生息している。遊走細胞の状態では細胞分裂を行わず、有柄細胞となってから遊走細胞を分離する形で細胞分裂を行う。このような非対称分裂を行うため、細胞分裂の研究対象とされてきた。
